Moments of the Week – #30

A bunch of awesome moments from this week!

After a 7-week hiatus, we’re back to MOW—with a few tweaks! In addition to the photos, I’ll also be sharing links to fun stuff I’ve come across! :)

I TA’d a couple classes recently and *highly* recommend you check ’em out if you’re looking to tap more into what you are *really* here to do, and then how to put that plan into motion!

If you’re in the SAN DIEGO area, check out The Naked Cafe—had breakfast there recently (see the pic below) and the food is AWESOME! Organic, local, fresh, and very creative! :)

Portland, Oregon: My buddy Rob Nagle stars as James Beard (the first TV chef) in the one-man show I Love to Eat at Portland Center Stage through February 10th!

My pals Macklemore X Ryan Lewis performing and (Dave’s reaction at the end is priceless)! I also love this video detailing how they got a record deal—ha! (and congrats to Mack and his gal Tricia on their engagement!! :)

OH—and I created an MP3 of a recent blog post on How to Keep Your Healthy Habits When Traveling (it’s right at the top of the article)—check it out to hear the nonstop awesomeness! :)

Next…

From high up in the skies to lots of food around San Diego—here we go!

(These pics actually cover my last two weeks (the first two since I’ve been back from Hawaii).)

Awwwwwww YEAH: exit row leg room, baby!! :)

In addition to all the awesome leg room, the exit row also provides some pretty cool views. Here we are high above the Hawaiian islands!

Back on the mainland and back in the kitchen: this time, whipping up my NA chili for a family of 5! (They were fans! :)

No, I’m not flipping houses; I was staying in the former apartment of a WDS alum, while they were fixing it up between renters. Pretty quiet over there: just me and the painting supplies. :)

Even with a minimalist kitchen, I was able to throw together a fantastic Broccoli-Avocado-Mango (aka BAM!) salad. Just one knife is all you need to prep. And yes, a fork helps when you want to eat it! :)

One of the kids I hung out with in San Diego: Isamu!

His 4-year-old brother Kenta, who took quite a liking to running at me and climbing up to my head. :)

And the baby: Hiroto! Gotta say, it was very awesome to see him REALLY love the smoothies I was making—awesome!!

My new friend, host and WDS alum, Etsuko! We decided to make raw mint cookies for a —neither of us had done it, and they turned out great! I think I ate about 10… :)

I first found The Naked Cafe back in September when at an Unschooling conference in Solana Beach. Great food, and excited to find another location: here was my eggs with pesto, topped with chopped artichoke hearts and sun-dried tomatoes, and avocado. SOOOOOO good. :)

If you listened to the podcast, you’ll hear that my air mattress deflated: here’s the culprit (well, all taped up)!

I wanted to thank my SD hosts again, so I put my foot down and demanded I made dinner. For some reason, they yielded. I made a variation on my Gluten-Free Fried Chicken, baking the pieces.

Here’s the finished meal: nut-crusted baked chicken, steamed asparagus, and garlic/cinnamon mashed sweet potatoes. :)

Yeah, that meal was pretty outstanding—and really simple! :)

They did have a Vitamix which I wanted to use every opportunity I got: here was my first attempt at Cashew Ice Cream—and I added a mint chocolate dusting. Yes, my friends: this was truly AMAZING! Obviously, not like regular ice cream, but it tasted phenomenal and is super healthy!

During the podcast I also mentioned stabbing myself with my big toe (that ever happen to you?)—well here was the result, two days later. Guess I really jabbed myself—yowsa!

Caught sunset at Ocean Beach and then hit up the Farmer’s Market: found a great tamale, fish taco, and (healthy) candied cashews!

My buddy Greg in Ocean Beach—usually he’s on the opposite end of the camera (thanks again to him for the header and a couple other awesome photos on the site)!

Never a dull moment: in the vacant apartment I was staying, water started running down from the unit above. Luckily, I was there exactly as it happened and snapped some photos. These might even come in handy for the owner re: insurance. (Another reason I’m glad I don’t own much! :)

Here’s my cooking companion for the other night. It doesn’t happen often, but I had a chance to cook for a very adorable girl…who also clearly knows her way around the kitchen. ;)

See ya next week from somewhere else in the world!
