Now I didn’t think I’d ever be saying this.
Ok – here goes…
I’m going skydiving.
THERE. It’s finally off my chest! Whew.
I know, I know, I know. WHY would I voluntarily leave (well, not just leave – but leap from!) a plane while it was thousands of feet in the air? Yeah, just not my style.
Frankly, I’m not sure this has all really sunk in yet. I don’t know that I’ll really understand what I’ve committed to until I see that airplane door open and the ground waaaaaaaaay down below. Thank god the ultimate decision of whether I go is not up to me – not sure I’d be able to do it – you’ll be happy to know that I’ll be harnessed to a professional jumper (cool title for the biz cards).
So who put me up to this?
No one. Honest. If you want to direct your motherly angst at someone, though, choose Joel at Blog of Impossible Things. He’s organizing this mission – but he’s also the one who sent me the macadamia nuts from Hawaii! See, he’s really a nice guy! Though I bet his mother worries about him, too…
Joel, me, and about 498 others are descending on Portland for the World Domination Summit conference this weekend, which promises to be really, really awesome (I think I read that on their marketing materials). Anyway, since Joel likes “impossible” things, he thought skydiving would be a great way to kick the weekend off!
He sent the word out and I signed up. I also convinced my buddy Jacob (one of the people I stayed with in NY) to go, too! I know Jacob will thank me… and yes, I’m sure his mother worries, too. That is, if she knows; last I checked, Jacob hadn’t broken the news, either – I wonder if she reads about the Awesomeness that is Nonstop?
What, me worry?
I’m sure it will all go smoothly. Plus, I’m opting for the DVD package, so we can watch the sheer terror and (hopefully) outrageous joy during my freefall over and over and over again! If I’m going to do this, I want video proof!
In case you want to know when to pray: the morning of Friday, June 3rd. I promise to call you afterward.
I know I’ll have nerves about this, and I know that as my Mom, you will, too. No getting around either of those things since we’re, you know – human. :-)
As you know, there have been a few unconventional things I’ve done that have worked out alright. Like moving to LA to be an actor (I got paid!), selling all my stuff (I got paid!), and traveling full-time (looking to get paid!). In fact, here’s a video I shot back in , where I needed to push through my waterfall fear… and yes, I survived (hope I didn’t ruin the ending there).
Sometimes Mom, you just gotta jump.
Love You!
PS – I have no plans to go bungee jumping. That’s just plain crazy.
For more on my Mom – you can check out my interview with her here.
Anything in your life you *know* you need to push through? I’ll be waiting on the other side! :-)
I’d love to hear your answer along with any other comments you have below.
Until next time,
Did you enjoy this post? Please like/tweet/share it with your amazing social network – and thank you!
I am SO excited for your jump. I will be sending you +++ vibes from the right coast on Friday morning. And I couldn’t agree more… bungee jumping is ludicrous, but skydiving (with someone strapped to your back) is sensibly stupendous! I plan to follow in your footsteps… just need to find the perfect place.
Enjoy Portland! Have a Voodoo donut for me! (I know, that’s cheating!)
thanks so much Laura! fingers crossed that the skies will be sunny!
and yes, will do my best to enjoy Portland (cheat food and all)! :-)
I’ve always wanted to jump through a waterfall, like almost deadly looking waterfall. I’ve honestly never saw the appeal in bungee jumping though. I always think everyone does it. I think I’d rather just take a shopping cart down a hill or something.
I have done the jump from a cliff to a body of water though, and it’s great!
Hope you had fun
thanks jonathan – yeah, the waterfall jump was lots of fun. there was an even bigger one i went to at Boiling Pots on the Big Island. i was impressed with the sheer impressiveness of the size, and a couple of girls I was with actually mustered up the courage to climb up behind it. really amazing. if they had jumped into it, they would have been done, but i’m sure it was still an amazing experience.
love that shopping cart image – yeah, i feel the same way. it’s like bungee jumping is an unofficial Jackass activity. :-)
Sounds like a great chance to skydive cause there’s no chickening out if someone has second thoughts!
Hope the weather cooperates for everyone. I’ll be looking for recaps and pics from this for sure.
i definitely thought this would be a great opportunity for camaraderie and when else might i have the chance to do this with 40 other people? thanks benny – will share what i capture! :-)
Thanks for coming Nathan! I know I had an awesome time. It was great to meet you at WDS and hang for a bit. Talk soon!
really appreciate you handling the “impossible” task of organizing this! my favorite part about it (aside from the mind-numbingly terrifying yet exhilarating dive): 43 people signed up, 42 people came back… :-)
such a blast to connect with ya too, bro. many good things ahead for us both!
