When rolling through New Orleans, finding the healthiest food possible isn’t always an easy task!
This is a city that prides itself on how the food tastes; my buddy Grant told me that presentation doesn’t really matter—it’s all about the flavor.
And, well…we all know how healthy rich, decadent, and sweet foods are for us, right? ;)
One day while I was walking in Uptown, I stumbled across the SuperFood Bar on Magazine Street.
It was closed at the time, but I peeked through the window at their chalkboard menu and knew I had to come back!
And I did go back: 3 times in one week!
(Though I did meet a girl who stops by every day! Yeah, it’s that good!! :)
They have a fantastic tagline, too: “Treat yourself to good health.” :)
Here’s “Quality Time with… SuperFood Bar!”
One of the cool things Joseph mentioned to me is how this all just kind of “happened,” where now the SuperFood Bar is the only place like this not just in New Orleans, or in the area—but in the region!
Basically, he started making and selling Kombucha because it had made such a big difference in his life, and after a while, he wanted to have more options available for customers.
He had no idea he was going to become “the guy” for super foods; that wasn’t the plan—he was just focused on healthy foods, and here we are. :)
Joseph dropped some serious wisdom and generously shared his background – if you’d like to check out MORE of what he had to say, check out the full, extended conversation!
He dove into: the health problems he grew up with, how his health led to depression and a major turning point, his “foodie” work history, and how exactly Kombucha cured him!
“A small change in your life can make big differences.”
~ Joseph Stone
In the extended video, Joseph was discussing his path with learning about and eating healthy foods. He discovered that a small, powerful food used in a consistent manner can bring about major changes and improvements in your life.
I always love to share the phrase “consistency over intensity”: it wouldn’t make a lick of difference if I drank three power smoothies in one day, if the rest of the week I’m eating junk food.
Gotta be consistent with this stuff – it’s all about the daily practice! :)
They even have super foods you can purchase and take home to make up your own power goodness!!
How can YOU make some super food today?
Blend up the smoothie that Joseph made in the video:
- Goji Berries
- Pineapple
- Strawberries
- Banana
- Mango
- Fruits of the Earth ()
- Lecithin
- Pecan Milk
The topping contains:
- Buckwheat
- Dates
- Oats
- Fruits of the earth (see above)
- Coconut flakes
Check out all the “granolas” they have on hand! :)
Amie was cooking up a batch of her Green Granola in the video:
- Spirulina
- Kale
- Blue-Green Algae
- Klamath Blue-Green Algae (very cool stuff – check out the link for TONS more info on this!)
And here’s the list of ingredients for the Coconut Bacon:
- Coconut
- Live soy
- Lemon
- Local scallions
Marinate then dehydrate!
Enjoy!
The next time you’re in New Orleans, be sure to stop by and treat yourself! :)
